This image was made by starting with this photo of Three Gorges Dam, which I ran through GIMP and sepia-toned. Then I imported it into MyPaint and inked in the robot, then going through with multiple passes of simulated watercolor for the basic shading and shadows. Finally I used dark charcoal for the detail work and some more texture, and a light charcoal for highlights.
You may notice he is fishing with a car as bait. This car is not quite to scale, but fairly close. The dam is really quite huge in real life! The sepia tones really make it look like an old 19th century industrialist photograph, except the dam was completed in 2012 in China.
